Reviews all phases of communication skills with practice in understanding, speaking, and writing grammatically correct Spanish. Teaches specific components of Spanish grammar: the Spanish verbal system, the subjunctive, ser versus estar, and other problematic aspects of grammar. Taught in Spanish.
In this course, I was exposed to the proper usage of the verbs ser and estar, in order to do so, we went through a series of activities where we practiced both orally and grammatically. Another set of activities we went through were related to the proper use of the present tense, past tense, and future tense. During these activities we got closer to the Spanish forms of speech, which includes: imperative, subjunctive and indicative. The activities we went through were always full of great examples that provided us the practice necessary to fully comprehend the material. Another key aspect about this class was the fact that every activity would relate to today’s lifestyle, where we could assimilate our lifestyle to the work we were required to do. While enrolled in this class, I was able to learn new vocabulary due to the daily activities we had. In this class, we were exposed to the proper use of accentuation, something that we are usually not exposed to. In the readings we were assigned to do, we would encounter readings based on historical event, for example, we had a reading about important discoveries that were done in the twentieth century. I highly recommend this course to anyone who is interested in improving their vocabulary skills, as well as the grammatical use. The class provides activities where we get to learn Spanish at a higher level than we are used to, and Dr. Oliva manages to provide the class material in a fun and respectful manner.
