Course Description: Conducted in Spanish, the course introduces the principles of literary analysis, based on reading and discussion of Hispanic literary texts. Includes fiction, drama, essay, and poetry from Spain and Spanish America.
In this class, we were introduced to the Hispanic literary texts that belonged to a certain literary movement. Throughout the semester, we came across many readings that took place in South America, Central America, as well as Mexico and Spain. Each reading we did from famous artists would connect to a literary movement that signified a state in the country where either political or social aspects could be represented. Throughout the class, we were introduced to the process of analyzing and interpreting a reading in the proper manner, and by doing so, we would be able to tie it to the literary movement it belongs in a clear way. One of the sections we encounter in the course was when we came across poetry, in which it represented either a social or political issue that was taking place in the time of the writing. Another aspect that we learn about poetry it's how it started to develop signs of affection to nature or natural human emotions like love and appreciation. For my final assignment, I decided to talk about Juan Rulfo, an author that belong to the Boom era, in which that description is not of wealth and beauty, but the reality of the urban struggle. In this assignment I introduced his contribution to the literary movement, as well as a brief description of how the reality he brings to the reader is quite unique and different to all the beauty we were used to in previous literary movements where beauty was the main theme.
