Course Description: This course will examine the multiple ways that Hispanic and Brazilian filmmakers have seen Hispanic world, its people, religious beliefs and cultures for more than a century. This course provides the student with a range of perspectives on cultural developments in Spain, Brazil, Latin America and the Caribbean from the colonial to the modern period, using critical and literary texts as well as films. Taught in English.
The class SPAN 325, was taught by la Profesora Christine Fernandez and I must say that I really enjoyed all the material we were exposed to, even though we were not able to meet the whole semester. During this class, I got the opportunity to learn about the film history y Spanish speaking nation, from México to Spain, Argentina, Chile and Brazil. The movies we watch were really interesting, and I had already watched most of them, but I never paid attention to the historical part of it. I will never forget the first movie we watched in class, Un chien andalou, it really caught my attention and this was my first time watching a silent film.
MLO 1
Students are able to communicate effectively in Spanish in three modes: interpersonal, interpretive, and presentational, and in a culturally appropriate manner in a variety of social and professional settings and circumstances at the Advanced Low level of language proficiency, according to ACTFL Guidelines.
MLO 3
Students develop a reasonable understanding of the ways of thinking (ideas, beliefs, attitudes, values, philosophies), the behavioral practices (patterns of social interactions), and the cultural products – both tangible and intangible (for example, art, history, literature, music) — of Hispanic societies
