While enrolled in this class, we were given the opportunity to learn about the importance of testimonies, and the hidden truth they could reveal. In this class we were able to read testimonies from people in Mexico, all the way to Central and South America, in which we learned about all the atrocities that people have faced throughout time. Some of the testimonies were so powerful to fully comprehend, that would require me a couple of readings to realize how shocking the cruelty the victims had faced, and how much of an impact it created on them. Another main thing I learn from this class, was on what can be considered a testimony. To know what can be a testimony was crucial, since we were given the opportunity to interview a person, who was opening up a crucial part of his life that would never be forgotten, and allowing us to record such experience. Doing this activity allowed me to understand why testimonies have been recognized as a crucial method of recording information in order to fight any social or political problem. For our testimony, we were given the opportunity to interview a person who had suffered from a major disadvantage during his academic career. Doing this activity helped me understand the disadvantages many immigrants tend to face when trying to accomplish their goal in the United States, also known as the “American Dream”. This class encouraged me to start utilizing testimonies for any work where I can apply it, since it represents the cruel reality people face, and is not shown at school or social media.
